Background

Joel is a multi-instrumentalist who has played across a wide range of genres including singer/songwriter, rock, jazz, gospel, improv, old time, and bluegrass. He is a recipient of a Performance Award from the Northern California Songwriters Association and had a demo deal with a major record company.

Why Jamming?

About three years ago, Joel discovered bluegrass jamming and wishes he'd found it much sooner. Bands and performing are rewarding but involve a lot of work relative to playing time — scheduling, rehearsing, booking, schlepping gear, and marketing. Jamming, on the other hand, is minimal work and mostly playing.

There's a place for everyone in the jamming world, from fresh beginners to advanced players. The skills built in jamming translate directly to performing. Jamming will improve your playing faster than anything else and drives your practice as you seek to fill in the gaps in your skills.

Joel is a certified Wernick Method bluegrass jamming instructor. He offers:
